About the Event

Senator Chris Van Hollen, our special guest, has a plan to counteract data centers' expensive drain on electricity through his Power for the People Act of 2026 (S.3682). Americans' electricity bills are soaring because data centers burn huge quantities of electricity to support artificial intelligence (AI). High demand for electricity drives up prices to consumers. Senator Van Hollen will explain how his Power for the People Act of 2026 would stop this unfair burden on Americans. (His legislation is featured in our March Action Alert, Americans Shouldn’t Foot the Bill for Big Data Centers.)

Our second speaker, Ann Bennett, will discuss data centers' impact on the climate, local resources, and communities. She serves as Data Centers Issue Chair for the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter.

Professor Hava Tirosh-Samuelson will offer words of Torah. She is Regents Professor of History, Irving and Miriam Lowe Professor of Modern Judaism, and Director of Jewish Studies at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.
