Take Action
November’s election is a high-leverage opportunity for us to change climate policy in our country. While specific climate laws may not be “on the ballot,” the results of November’s elections will be vitally important for the climate. Results will shape the final two years of climate policy under the Trump administration—from energy reliability and affordability to disaster resilience and recovery. Be part of a high-impact climate action by joining us and Dayenu on October 20 in getting out the environmental voter this November as we use the nonpartisan Environmental Voter Project (EVP) proven science-informed voter messaging.
Background
Research shows that majorities of registered voters prefer candidates who support action on the climate, want development of clean energy sources, and support policies to reduce the pollution that causes global warming. And after a summer of dangerous heat, drought and floods, a majority of Americans are connecting increasingly severe weather to the climate crisis. However, an estimated 11.2 million environmentalists did not vote in the 2024 presidential election, and many more skip midterm, state, and local elections. At our October 20 briefing, we will have the opportunity to mobilize these low propensity voters to vote in the midterm elections.
Why Now?
The so-called One Big Beautiful Bill (H.R.1) became law in 2025 and started a devastating timeline of cuts to climate programs and policies. Renewable energy programs, preservation of the Arctic from oil drilling, restrictions on logging on public lands, disaster relief, tax credits for clean vehicles—all came under the OBBB axe. We need to elect a Congress that will restore these programs and enact just and equitable climate legislation to protect the safety and wellbeing of people and the planet.
Our Action
One of the most effective way to get out the vote is by making calls to voters. On October 20, Dayenu will train us to use the nonpartisan EVP’s proven way to make calls to increase voter participation in November’s elections by using a virtual phonebank. The software we will use makes the calls for you. Your phone number will not be used. We will be provided with clear instructions and a script on how to respond to people’s questions. We will speak to environmental voters who do not vote frequently to mobilize them to vote in November’s midterm elections. If you can’t participate on October 20, register for a phonebank on another day with EVP.

Jewish Perspectives
Voting can be understood through a deeply Jewish lens. Our tradition teaches that we are responsible not only for what we do, but for what we allow to happen. The Torah commands, “Do not stand idly by while your neighbor’s blood is shed” (Leviticus 19:16), and the Talmud teaches “Anyone who had the capability to effectively protest the sinful conduct of the members of their household… or the people of their town… or the whole world and did not protest, they themselves are apprehended and punished.” (BT Shabbat 54b)
In very clear language, when we have the power to protest wrongdoing but remain silent, we bear responsibility for the consequences. In a democracy, voting is one of the most powerful ways we have to exercise that responsibility. Our vote is more than a personal preference—it is an opportunity to pursue tzedek, justice, and to protect the vulnerable and the future we share. When we vote, we turn Jewish values into action.
